Requirements for the Major in Mathematics B.S. Degree with Concentration in Mathematics Education

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a major in mathematics with a concentration in mathematics education as one of the options for students pursuing the B.S. degree. Undergraduates seeking a license to teach mathematics in secondary schools (grades 7-12) must complete this major. Requirements for the major are specified on the upper-division form.

Suggested four-year plans for students entering the program at various points have been developed and will be uploaded to this website soon.

  • Plan for freshmen entering in the fall and beginning with MATH 121 (Pre-calculus)

  • Plan for freshmen entering in the fall and beginning with MATH 122 (Calculus I)

  • Plan for freshmen entering in the spring and beginning with MATH 121 (Pre-calculus)

  • Plan for freshmen entering in the spring and beginning with MATH 122 (Calculus I)

Advisors for undergraduate mathematics majors with a concentration in mathematics education include Mike Beck (mbeck@mtsu.edu), Elaine Bouldin (ebouldin@mtsu.edu), and Dovie Kimmins (dkimmins@mtsu.edu).
